Double Denim Sidewalk Style: Charlize Theron In Current/Elliott & Rag & Bone

Sunday 20 May 2012 - Filed under fashion

I remember back in the 80s when double denim was the look.

It then became really unfashionable for a while despite Britney Spears and Justin Timberlakes best efforts to make the look cool again.

Charlize Theron proves when worn right it can be quite a sexy look.

The South African actress was spotted headed to a Spa in Hollywood yesterday wearing a light denim Current/Elliott Perfect shirt with dark denim Rag & Bone jeans.

The faux-pas looks has become fashionable.

Double denim was seen on the Ralph Lauren, Chloe and D&G Spring 2010 runways so why do I still not want to jump on this trend?

David Beckham and Alexa Chung have also managed to pull of the DD look.

On The Gossip Girls Set With Leighton Meester Wearing Elie Tahari & Blake Lively Wearing Herve Leger

Sunday 20 May 2012 - Filed under fashion

On Wednesday we saw the Season 2 finale of Gossip Girl in the UK.

Finale’s can be disappointing, but I loved ending with Blair and Chuck as it got me really excited to see what will happen next in Season 3 .

Looking at the recent pictures of Blake Lively and Leighton Meester on set kind of burst that happy bubble.

The Elie Tahari floral dress Leighton wore on set with a scene with Ed Westwick and Blake Lively is nice enough, but it doesn’t quite feel like Blair.

Her second look is quite matron-esqe.

What’s up with the Olivia Palmero hair?

What happened to the pearls, headbands and twin sets?

Will Blair have a make-under for Season 3?

Say it ain’t so.

Here she is wearing a yellow Diane von Furstenberg top and a Vince skirt with Vera Wang shoes whilst carrying a green suede Gemme Frame Valentino bag.

I love Blake as Serena van der Woodsen, but her Herve Leger cut-out body-con dress leaves very little to the imagination.

She looks hot don’t get me wrong, but I was under the impression her character had moved on from dressing like this.

Her look is accessorized with a Prada clutch bag and Manolo Blahnik gold gladiator heels.

Sidewalk Style – Fearne Cotton & Mischa Barton

Saturday 19 May 2012 - Filed under fashion

Mischa Barton and Fearne Cotton were out in LA this weekend filming series 2 of Fearne’s TV show “Fearne And…” which is shown in the UK on ITV2.

Hopefully she won’t be as gushy as she was last during the series. I would like to see her ask the celebs more intense questions.

Fearne let the home side down by wearing a granny-esqe floral maxi dress with tan boots and a green bag.

It was surprisingly Mischa who decided on a more cleaned up, chic look. Even her extensions pass on this occasion.

She looked quite cute wearing a peachy pussy-bow blouse with tan suede shorts and Zara lace-up wedges which I’m wearing right now by coincidence.

If this was a style battle, Mischa wins hands down.

As a presenter Fearne rightly didn’t outshine her guest, but she could’ve made more of an effort.

Brooklyn Decker In Peter Pilotto – ‘Battleship’ Japan Photocall

Saturday 19 May 2012 - Filed under fashion

Brooklyn Decker joined Rihanna onboard the USS George Washington at U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka for the photocall for ‘Battleship’ in Japan this afternoon.

The actress looked stylish once again, wearing a piece from the Peter Pilotto Spring 2012 collection.

Instead of matching her digital-print skirt with the runway shirt, she opted for a simple navy Theyskens’ Theory silk camisole top.

I’m glad she didn’t opt for print on print. Brooklyn always keeps things interesting by breaking up runway looks, and I’m glad that trend continued here.

My shoe gal didn’t let me down, as she opted for bright yellow pointy Louboutin pumps.

Wavy locks and a fuchsia-pink lip colour completed her look.

You can shop Brooklyn’s Peter Pilotto skirt from Net-A-Porter.com.

Ubuntu Arrives By Way Of Denmark, England, South Africa, And Zaire (Maybe)

Thursday 17 May 2012 - Filed under fashion

As fashion explanations go, this was unusual: “[Attached is] a sneak preview of a shoot we did in the heart of Zaire yesterday,” writes musician and artist Xander Ferreira, one of the minds behind the new Ubuntu collection. “Flew in and out same day in the private jet of the president!”It’s difficult to say exactly how much of this is true: Zaire, after all, is no longer a country, and it seems unlikely that the current president of the Democratic Republic of Congo lent his Concorde to the rabble-rousers behind Ubuntu, no matter how sterling their intentions. But the collection can stand—if not fly—on its own quite nicely, anyway. The brainchild of the Denmark-born, London-based knitwear designers the Inoue Brothers; the South African “Limpop” band Gazelle, which is Ferreira and DJ Nick Matthews; and the Danish design team the Créol Brothers, Ubuntu’s simply cut, wildly embellished menswear should find fans worldwide. Especially smart are the hand-beaded tops, made from organic hemp—the group hired residents of the impoverished Khayelitsha township, near Cape Town, to produce them. “Beading is a skill many women in South Africa have, and we came up with different ways that it could be fashionable,” Ferreira says. “Our goal, with this project, is not just to help people but to empower them, to educate people, and see them sustain themselves.” They go on sale today at Storm in Copenhagen, on June 19 at Dover Street Market, and, with luck, a well-known U.S. retailer or two in the months to come.

Lagerfeld Redesigning The Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo, Gwyneth Paltrow To Play Picasso’s Lover?, Domenico Dolce And Stefano Gabbana Also Score New Film Roles, And More…

Thursday 17 May 2012 - Filed under fashion

Karl Lagerfeld’s latest project: redesigning sections of the Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo. WWD reports that “one of the key features of the project will be a fresco-style installation consisting of 15 etched and backlit glass panels depicting Ulysses’ journey,” which the hotel will reveal today. [WWD]Gwyneth Paltrow has reportedly been cast as Pablo Picasso’s lover Dora Maar in 33 Dias. The late artist used Maar as a subject for many of his pieces throughout his career. [Vogue U.K.]Earlier this week, a slew of “cool ladies” turned out to the Roger Vivier boutique in Milan to fête the photo exhibition celebrating the launch of its new Prismick accessories collection, which the brand showed in Paris earlier this month. The label commissioned portraits of various celebrities and friends, such as Servane Giol and Marta Ferri (who is featured in the latest issue of Style.com/Print), for the exhibition. [WWD]Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana will make a cameo appearance, alongside Penélope Cruz, in Woody Allen’s next film, To Rome With Love (premiering in Rome on April 13). Though the two have nonspeaking roles this time around, they have acted in films and commercials in the past. [Telegraph]

A Stella McCartney Lesson In Green Design

Wednesday 16 May 2012 - Filed under fashion

Last night, the National Resources Defense Council held its 11th annual Forces for Nature Benefit, honoring the environmental leadership of Stella McCartney and Discovery Communications president and CEO David Zaslav. The event was emceed by Alec Baldwin, and Paul McCartney, Graydon Carter, Diane von Furstenberg, and Seth Meyers were in the crowd. When we caught up with Stella McCartney before an organically grown, sustainably harvested dinner accompanied by organic and biodynamic wine donated from the Lapostolle winery, we asked how she thought eco-friendly design has been affected by the recession. “I think design in general changes,” she said. “You have to try a bit harder and buckle down and concentrate, which is good! I think it’s healthy. But I’m very much a believer that just because something is slightly more environmental you shouldn’t have to think any differently in the way you design.” Case in the point, her up-to-there synthetic leather boots, which were the talk of the green carpet. When we wondered how high the boots actually went, Stella jokingly pointed to the neckline of her purple sweetheart dress.

Rihanna In Givenchy Couture – 2012 Brit Awards

Wednesday 16 May 2012 - Filed under fashion

Rihanna took a night off wearing her co-designed Giorgio Armani gowns at the 2012 Brits Awards, which was held at the O2 Arena in London this evening.

The surprisingly nervous singer took home the ‘Best International Female Artist’ award wearing a Givenchy Spring 2012 Couture gown.

Her sexy, shimmering crystal embellished taupe gown with a thigh-high split and plunging neckline was teamed with matching Givenchy diamante peep-toes and brown leather opera gloves which we’ve seen all over the Fall 2012 runways.

The trend setter wore Solange Azagury-Partridge studded earrings and opted to style her ombre blonde locks into a chic updo.

Do you love this look?

Or are her thigh-high splits and plunging neckline gowns all rolling into one?

Fit For 31 Hours A Day

Tuesday 15 May 2012 - Filed under fashion

Sometimes there aren’t enough hours in the day to change outfits—or handbags—in between business meetings, dentist appointments, the gym, and that cocktail party you have to swing by. Phillip Lim has come up with a solution—the 31 Hour bag collection ($295 to $895).“The idea was to create a bag for the 31 Hour person—someone who leads an interesting, busy, and demanding life,” Lim told Style.com of the napa leather tote and the zip-close portfolio-cum-clutch you can slip inside. “The main thing for me was to make it multifunctional and pragmatic, something that could transition with you throughout the day and not define what you are doing or where you are going.” We’re guessing we’ll be seeing lots of these around Lincoln Center come fashion week in February. Until then, you can watch the bag in motion in this exclusive video (above).

Abbie Cornish In Amanda Wakeley – “Sucker Punch” LA Premiere

Tuesday 15 May 2012 - Filed under fashion

Abbie Cornish wore a vibrant hue on the red carpet for the LA Premiere of her new movie, “Sucker Punch” which was held at The Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood last night.

The Australian actress wore an Amanda Wakeley Spring 2011 gown in electric blue – my favourite red carpet colour.

Her gown has a criss-cross detail on the bodice plus divine draped details from the hips.

It may not have a thigh-high split or bedazzle like her younger co-stars, but she looks very beautiful and elegant.

She completed her look with sapphire drop earrings and a gold envelope clutch.
